Episode 2: 9/19/22
Dear PhDJ, I am not comfortable at a show unless I have the warm glow of a Sony audio recorder with the levels peaking at -3db next to me. My wife doesn't want to go to shows with me anymore if I want to bring in gear. I think I suffer from some sort of FOMO. I love my wife, but I also love bringing home an excellent recording. How can I balance this out? From, FOMO Recordo Dear FOMO, As someone who is most comfortable at shows behind a table of records, t-shirts, and stickers, I completely empathize with how you are feeling. Not only does taping at shows give you instant access to the recording, it is also something to keep your mind busy and focused. For some of us, that's a really good thing. I am not a personal fan of the word balance, or striving for that, but as a compromise, would it be possible to do some advance planning and prioritize the shows you *must* get on tape? Discuss that with your wife and determine what shows you'd be OK with not taping so that you can get a bit of both in your life. You may find you enjoy the non-Sony focused experience more than you think, if you have in mind the other shows you'll be taping that are coming up soon. Hoping that helps, FOMO! |
